Kotuwa
Project type
Restaurant
Location
Singapore
Kotuwa is a celebration of Sri Lankan spirit vivid, layered, and full of character.
The design blends rough textures with clay brick platforms and polished concrete floors sit alongside custom green leather banquettes and colorful wood panels.
At the entrance, a sculptural piece by Sri Lankan artist Prageeth Manohansa draws guests into a raised lounge and intimate bar. Vintage louvered panels salvaged from the original Kotuwa were reused, installed and backlit, bringing soft light and a sense of continuity. A giant custom chandelier and an illuminated brass back bar bottle display complete the bar, built from exposed brick and teak.
Inside the dining room, color takes over. Panelled doors and wall features explode with pigment, echoing Sri Lanka’s streets and traditions. An open kitchen framed by rainbow-toned woodwork invites diners into the action. Art sourced by Chef Rishi and a custom mosaic of a traditional Sri Lankan mask by Bisazza add storytelling and depth.
The result is a restaurant that feels rooted yet modern, funky yet composed. Every detail was shaped to reflect the vibrant complexity of Sri Lankan culture.
